Northwest Coffee County on Interstate 24
Beechgrove, TN: Homes and Community Guide
Beechgrove is the corner of Coffee County closest to Murfreesboro and Nashville. For buyers who want a rural setting near the interstate, it is worth a look. Here is what I tell people about it.
Where Beechgrove is
Beechgrove is an unincorporated community in northwestern Coffee County, at the junction of Interstate 24, US 41 and State Route 64. It has its own post office with ZIP code 37018. Manchester is southeast along Interstate 24, and Murfreesboro is to the northwest.
How it got its name
The community was named for the beech trees near the original town site, and a post office has operated there since 1836. It was long spelled Beech Grove. When ZIP codes were assigned, another Beech Grove in Tennessee received its code first, so the Coffee County post office became Beechgrove to avoid confusion. Many locals still use both spellings.
Hoover's Gap
Beechgrove sits at Hoover's Gap, where a Civil War battle was fought from June 24 to 26, 1863. The Coffee County Historical Society notes it was the only major battle fought in the county, and that Union troops there used Spencer repeating rifles. The Beech Grove Confederate Cemetery sits on a hill overlooking Interstate 24. The American Battlefield Trust lists Hoover's Gap among the battlefields it works to preserve, and a state grant reported in 2026 helped protect a small tract there.
What living here looks like
Because Beechgrove is unincorporated, county government provides services, and the Coffee County Codes Compliance office handles zoning and permits. Homes tend to be on rural roads, and many sit on acreage. The interstate interchange gives quick access for people who drive toward Murfreesboro or Nashville. My commuting guide covers that drive from Manchester.
What to check before you buy in Beechgrove
- Septic and water. Ask whether the home is on a septic system and a well or public water. Tennessee keeps septic permit records you can request.
- Electric. Duck River Electric Membership Corporation serves much of the county outside Tullahoma.
- Schools. Rural addresses are generally served by Coffee County Schools, but confirm the specific school with the district.
- Zoning and plans. If you want to build a shop or divide land, talk to the county codes office first.
- Road noise and access. Some properties are close to the interstate. Visit at different times of day.

Nearby places to know
From Beechgrove, Manchester is the closest county seat, with the courthouse, county offices and shopping around the public square. Old Stone Fort State Archaeological Park sits just west of downtown Manchester, and Great Stage Park, home of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival since 2002, is in Manchester as well. If you buy near the interstate, ask how festival weekend traffic affects your roads.
Acreage and greenbelt
Many rural tracts in this corner of the county are larger parcels. Some are taxed under Tennessee's greenbelt program, which values qualifying agricultural, forest or open space land by its present use. If the land leaves the program, rollback taxes can be due for prior years. Ask the seller about greenbelt status early and put the answer on who pays any rollback taxes in writing. My greenbelt guide has the details.
