Distances, routes and planning tips
Commuting From Manchester to Nashville and Chattanooga
Manchester is a popular choice for people who want a smaller town but still need to reach a bigger city. Interstate 24 runs along the northeast side of town and connects Manchester to both Nashville and Chattanooga.
Distances at a glance
These figures come from the Coffee County Industrial Board quick facts for Manchester:
- Nashville: about 64 miles
- Chattanooga: about 69 miles
- Nashville International Airport (BNA): about 59 miles
- Tullahoma Regional Airport, William Northern Field: about 15 miles
The Tennessee state park brochure for Old Stone Fort describes Manchester as approximately one hour from both Nashville and Chattanooga. Actual drive time depends heavily on traffic and time of day, so treat an hour as a starting point rather than a promise.
Routes
Interstate 24 is the main route to both cities, and Coffee County has six interstate exits. US 41 and State Highways 53 and 55 also serve the area. Living close to an interstate exit can make a real difference on a daily drive.
Test your commute before you buy
The best advice I can give is to drive your actual commute at the actual time you would make it. Try it on a weekday morning and evening. Map apps can also show typical traffic for a given departure time.
Working closer to home
Many Manchester residents work locally, in Tullahoma, or at Arnold Air Force Base, which sits between Manchester, Tullahoma and Winchester. If your work is on base, see my Arnold AFB guide.
Remote and hybrid workers
If you work from home part of the week, internet service matters as much as the drive. Ask about the providers that serve any address you are considering, especially for rural county property.
Time zone note
Manchester is in the Central time zone. Chattanooga is in the Eastern time zone, so remember the one hour difference when you plan meetings or appointments there.
Choosing the right spot
Commuters often look at homes with quick access to Interstate 24. My neighborhoods and areas guide explains the main parts of town. When you are ready, request my buyer guide and tell me where you need to drive, and I will build your search around it.
